Patriotic Wreath Made with Napkins

Isn’t this patriotic wreath adorable? The girls at Bright Settings whipped it up last week just in time for the summer holidays.

When we rent out tablecloths and napkins for events all over the country, sometimes they come back with stains that are impossible to get out. Since we only send out table linens that are in pristine condition to rental customers, the stained linens do not go back into inventory. Instead, we give them away to local organizations like churches, homeless shelters, schools, etc. They are thrilled to have cloth tablecloths on their tables (and they usually can’t even find the stain;-)

This wreath was made from discarded red, white, and navy blue napkins. These 20″ x 20″ polyester napkins were cut in half first. Then they were wrapped around a styrofoam wreath base and secured with rubber bands. Foam patriotic-themed stickers were then added to the blue section to emulate the stars on an American flag. I just love it.

Of course, you may not have hundreds of cloth napkins at your disposal like we do at Bright Settings. Luckily, there are other options for covering the wreath. I’ve seen them made with paper napkins too. The nice thing about paper napkins is that they can easily be changed out for different events.

There are also tutorials on the web for making wreaths out of ribbons in much the same way this wreath was made. I would probably choose a stiffer ribbon such as grosgrain for a little more stability.

Being an avid quilter, I have LOTS of fabric scraps in my sewing studio. My head is spinning with all the different holiday-themed wreaths I can make from my stash! Just search for fabric rag wreath tutorials online for instructions galore.

If you don’t have a place to hang a wreath – especially if you are celebrating outdoors – why not turn it into a centerpiece. Lay it on your table (covered with a gorgeous cloth tablecloth from Bright Settings, of course) and put a candle or vase of flowers in the center. Hopefully no one will wipe their face on the napkins as it sits on the table!
