In anticipation of Pi Day coming up on 3.14, I surfed the web for some unique pot pie recipes. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love grandma’s old-fashioned chicken pot pie made with traditional pie crusts, but my family likes me to switch things up once in awhile. So, here are a dozen pot pie recipes that feature distinctive crusts or unusual fillings that are sure to become family favorites.

Easy Chicken Pot Pie Potato Skins

Sarah from Whole & Heavenly Oven has a great motto that I love: When in doubt, stuff it in a potato skin. This pot pie recipe is note only delicious, but a lot easier than grandma’s recipe.

Chicken Pot Pie Burger

Lauren from Climbing Grier Mountain is a self-proclaimed foodie that never met a burger she didn’t like. This burger has all the taste but none of the hassle of traditional pot pie.

Samosa Pie

A samosa is a baked or friend pastry filled with savory fixin’s. This recipe from Jennifer of the foodess blog gives options for using chicken or beef in the filling and covering it with either pie crust or puff pastry. Just reading the list of ingredients made my mouth water.

Cheeseburger Pot Pie

I can personally vouch for this recipe from Spend With Pennies. It was a staple in my menu — back when my kids were teenagers. They especially loved the biscuit topping and I especially liked how easy it was to put together.

Chicken Pot Pie Empanada

An empanada is a stuffed pastry that’s baked or fried. Real Simple’s version is made with pie crust stuffed with chicken pot pie filling. The recipe calls for a rotisserie chicken which is my favorite way to cook a chicken!

Mini Macaroni and Cheese Pies

If you’re not a big fan of chicken fillings, how about macaroni and cheese? That’s what Kirbie’s Cravings’ recipe calls for. Your kids will love these!

Cornbread Chicken Pot Pie

Chika from For The Love of Dessert substitutes cornbread for pie crusts. This is a quick and easy one-pan meal suitable for any weeknight supper.

Mini Vegetable Pot Pie

Revi’s Foodography revised a chicken pot pie recipe into a vegetarian version. She uses puff pastry to cover her ramekins. This recipe would be perfect for a ladies’ luncheon!

Spring Vegetable Pie

This recipe from Great British Chefs calls for leaks, asparagus, and lots of other delicious ingredients. I bet it tastes as good as it looks.

Traditional Irish Shepherd’s Pie

This recipe of Gourmet Persuasian is a wonderful example of a one-dish pot pie. Sharon promises that it will become a staple in your repertoire.

Mini Shepherd’s Pot Pies

This recipe from Pillsbury features their refrigerated pie crusts and refrigerated mashed potatoes. How easy is that?

Pizza Pot Pie

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s delicious! Oh, Bite It offers up a pot pie recipe made with pie crust and pizza fixings. It’s like a deep dish pizza, but easier to make at home.
