Paisley is one of my very favorite decorative motifs. I often use paisley-print fabrics when sewing quilts. Plus, I have several items of clothing with paisley designs, not to mention all those ties in my husband’s closet! The classic motif has proven itself to be the perfect design choice in so many settings – especially home decor. We’ve all seen throw pillows, curtains, and upholstery fabric sporting the versatile paisley shape. But have you ever considered putting paisley tablecloths on your tables? No matter what your decorating style, the lovely feather-shaped form is a welcome addition.

Bright Settings has a brand new tablecloth fabric called Paisley. The color choices are virtually limitless because Paisley is a Custom Print. That means you get to choose what color combinations you want for your tablecloth! Here are two color variations that give you an idea of the possibilities.

Turquoise-Lime Paisley Tablecloths

Gold-Magenta Paisley Tablecloths

Turquoise-Lime is a not-so-subtle display of bright and bold colors. The Gold-Magenta colorway is more feminine, but no less audacious. If neither of these combinations matches your dining room colors, pick a couple color families that would. The teardrop-shaped paisley motif has a long, illustrious history. It’s thought to have originated in Persia, although the name “paisley” comes from the town where textiles with these designs were heavily manufactured in the 1800s – Paisley, West Scotland. Through the centuries, the fig-shaped design has evolved with the times. From the stylized floral sprays of ancient Middle Eastern countries to the retro look of the ’60s flower-power era, the classic motif accommodates all manner of design sensibilities. Did you know that in northern Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, the paisley design was even used as a protective charm to ward off demons?

Here in America, paisley made a big comeback in the ’60s. Some of us remember when the ubiquitous motif was associated with rock and roll, mini skirts, and the Summer of Love. It was a popular motif in “psychedelic” designs. Many bands decorated their instruments – especially guitars – with paisley patterns. Prince even named his recording label Paisley Park Records in tribute to the rock and roll history of paisley. What could be more hip than Paisley?!?

Try a paisley print to brighten your kitchen or dining room. A paisley tablecloth would be perfect for a 60’s or 70’s themed party, too! (Wait just a minute . . . when did the decades of my youth become party themes? Oh, well;-) When it comes to pretty paisley tablecloths, Bright Settings has you covered!
