Memorial Day comes early this year. It sure snuck up on me. I thought I had another week to plan the menu for my annual picnic. Luckily, I found a dozen red, white, and blue recipes online. I’ve put them all together in this blog. Now all I have to do is send this article to 12 of my friends and have them each pick a recipe to make. Then I’ll sit back and watch the picnic come to me. Which one of these twelve patriotic recipes do you want to make?

First up, appetizers. Strawberries and blueberries are going to make quite a few appearances in these patriotic-themed recipes and this recipe from Jamie Cooks It Up is no exception. To make Cream Cheese Stuffed Strawberries, just pipe some cream cheese into a strawberry and put a blueberry on top. You’ll have a delicious snack that will hold over the little kids – and big kids – until dinnertime.

How about some hors d’oeuvres? These Red White And Blue Nachos from The Food Channel are a savory, spicy snack, especially with the addition of jalapenos. You have to start out with blue nacho chips. Luckily they’re easy to find at the grocery store nowadays.

After nibbling on those nachos, your guests will be thirsty. Try this Triple Berry Frozen Smoothie recipe from In Katrina’s Kitchen blog. Everyone will love them, especially the kids. (If you add a little rum, the big kids might love them too;-)

The Sister’s Cafe provides both a recipe and a video for this layered red, white, and blue drink. Mindy gives you lots of options for ingredients.

Who wants jello? This Red White and Blue Finger Jello recipe from Community Table is perfect for picnics because kids can hold the jello in their hands.

For the adults, try these Red, White & Blue Jello Shots from Can’t Google Everything. Just make sure you let each layer set up before adding the next color.

I love this Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Popcorn from Lily the Wandering Gypsy. You only need two ingredients, popcorn and candy melts. Maybe that makes three ingredients since you need both red and blue candy.

I often make salads with berries and feta cheese. My family and friends request them. Here’s a simple recipe for The Red White and Blue Sweet Summer Salad from Green Lite Bites. It’s so healthy and delicious.

Mary from Home Is Where The Boat Is has provided a recipe for a Berry (Quick & Easy) Layered Cake. You start with a store-bought angel food cake then add your favorite cream mixture and fresh berries. I think I’ll have to make this for my son, Jake, who loves angel food cake.

Are your kids cookie monsters? Mine are. Here’s a wonderful recipe for Fireworks Cookies from Red Couch Recipes. You can see how the icing is swirled to get that fabulous pinwheel effect.

Need a simpler cookie recipe? Lauren from Tastes Better From Scratch uses red and blue M&Ms plus white chocolate chips to make these Red, White, and Blue M&M Cookies. Yum.

Speaking of yummy, how do these Individual Red, White, and Blue Trifles sound? If they taste as good as they look, they’ll be a big hit at your picnic.

Which of these twelve patriotic recipes will you make? With a little help from my friends, I’m just about ready for my annual Memorial Day picnic. Besides putting some hotdogs on the grill, all I’ll have to do for Monday’s picnic is decorate. Luckily, I have lots of red, white, and blue tablecloths for the picnic tables. I got them from Bright’s Patriotic Tablecloths Collection. There are so many great fabrics featured here that the hardest part will be picking which tablecloths to use. Have a great holiday weekend!
