My last blog post, 12 Sweet Hand Pie Recipes, was such a hit that I decided to gather some savory hand pie recipes too. Not only are hand pies perfect for meal time, these little beauties are perfect for packing in picnic baskets, lunch pails, or served on party trays.

Green Chile Chicken Hand Pies – Dan from MANtitlement started with puff pastry for these delicious hand pies. He also saved time by using Stubb’s Green Chili Anytime Sauce. I’m going to try this recipe out on my spice-loving sons.

Spinach Artichoke Hand Pies – Want a vegetarian option? These spinach and artichoke hand pies from Will Cook For Smiles are wrapped with flaky pie crusts.

Baked Piroshki (Russian Hand Pie or Pierogi) – Instead of puff pastry or pie crust, this hand pie recipe from Food Mack features a soft, fluffy bun to envelop the savory meat filling.

Creamy Chicken Taco Crescent Roll Hand Pies – Yet another crust variation. This recipe from Five Heart Home uses crescent rolls topped with tortilla chip crumbs for the crust.

Lentil Hand Pies with Basil Walnut Pesto – This recipe from Delish Knowledge would be perfect for a ladies’ day out. I’m going to try them out the next time I’m in charge of our Meatless Monday meal with my vegetarian quilting friends.

Jewish Meat Hand Pies (or Маина) – Marina from Let The Baking Begin says that these traditional Jewish hand pies can be filled with whatever ingredients you like. They can also be made ahead of time and heated in the oven when you’re ready to serve them.

My husband just loves it when I write these recipe roundups. I have a feeling that he’s going to want me to try out several of these savory hand pie recipes. When I do, I’ll be sure to serve them up on a pretty tablecloth. I really like some of Bright Setting’s newest tablecloth fabrics, especially Delano Crinkle Taffeta. This gorgeous polyester/nylon tablecloth looks delicate, but it’s not. It’s completely machine washable and looks great right out of the dryer. No ironing required! It comes in 22 “rippling” colors that would look great on top of your dining room table – and under your savory hand pies!
